The Queens for a Cause Initiative was originally named "Queens for Kids" and was developed in 2001 as a way to give back to the community and to the Children's Miracle Network. Since its inception, the Clearfield County Fair Queens for a Cause Initiative has raised funds for the Children's Miracle Network and other local charities in many ways including hosting pancake breakfasts, 5K races, car shows, basket raffles, and trivia nights. One of the most notable ways our program raises funds for charity is through our Lamb Project.

Each year, the reigning Fair Queen is able to give a donation in addition to her Children's Miracle Network Donation. This could be to a local charitable organization or a local family or individual in need. The vast array of organizations and individuals our past fair queens have donated to speaks to the diverse interests and passions of our fair queens!

Since the spring of 2002, the outgoing Clearfield County Fair Queen has raised, shown, and sold a lamb at the Clearfield County, splitting the proceeds between the Children's Miracle Network and the 4-H & FFA Scholarship Fund.
This project came to life with the help of Former Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture, Sam E. Hayes Junior and Mike Kerr, along with his family, with the goal of bridging the gap between the Clearfield County Fair Queen Program and the 4-H and FFA exhibitors at our fair. In the beginning, many outgoing queens kept their lambs at the Kerr residents and were taught how to properly raise and show their lamb by Mr. Kerr's son, MP Kerr or other youth exhibitors from the Clearfield County Fair.
Jayna Vicary with Former PA Sec. of Agriculture, Sam E. Hayes Jr.
When our 2018 Clearfield County Fair Queen, Jayna Vicary, started her lamb project, she had no idea where it would lead her. Jayna's Queen Lamb was fittingly named Reign and working with him sparked a love of sheep in her. With the support and guidance of Sam Hayes, Jayna started a small sheep breeding operation at her house. In 2022, Jayna took over the lamb project from Sam Hayes, though he is always only a phone call away! She has been breeding and providing lambs for the past few years for our queens and supporting our queens as learn how to care for, show, and sell a lamb.
